I am working with
a once reluctant reader. After I read the first four books in
The Young Heroes of History series to him, he became so
engrossed in the stories, that he started to read on his own.
He finished the last two books independently and said that he
now loves reading because of your series. He wants to keep
reading...alas, we have run out of books. Can you tell me when
the other books will be published?
Many thanks,
Susan
This was an
excellent book that I would recommend to anyone. Its around a
middle school reading level, but could easily be enjoyed by
older students, or anyone interested in the Pre- Civil War. The
book is well written, and keeps you wondering what will happen
to Lisa and David, until the very end. This book shows that
friendship goes beyond race, and but also shows just how cruel
people can be to people of other races and nationalities.
Overall, I loved the book. I give it a definite five stars.

I read the first
book in the 'Young Heroes of History' series; 'Send 'Em South.'
I LOVED it!!! I couldn't put it down!!
The adventure
captivates the reader in a whole new world, time, place, and
setting, making you feel like you are in the book, experiencing
the thrilling adventure, right along with the characters!
Altogether, making this an incredible book, and series. I HIGHLY
recommend it. I give it 5 stars! (It's the best!)
Dear Mr. Kay,
I just wanted to
say how much I loved your books. I read the first and second
books of the series and it really opened my eyes to see what it
was like back during the Civil War. I loved the plot, the
characters, and the ways the characters related to people in my
life. I can’t wait to read the third one. Also, the way you
came up with stories really made me think about becoming a
writer. I would like to thank you for writing these books that
taught me to like history.
With much
respect,
Mark
Dear Mr. Alan
Kay,
I thought your
first book, Sned ‘Em South, was great! Although I’m very
anxious about what happens to Lisa. I’m quite fond of the
character Lisa actually and I hope she will escape! The second
book was awesome too. I really enjoyed listening to my teacher
read your books aloud.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mary
